Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) Arlington, TX | Arlington Plastic Surgery - Dr. Anthony Tran M.D.

Understanding Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Ear surgery is a specialized plastic surgery procedure designed to reshape and improve the appearance of ears for children and adults. The procedure, also known as otoplasty or ear pinning, effectively addresses various ear shape and positioning concerns.

Procedure Overview

  • Procedure Length: 2-3 hours
  • Anesthesia: Twilight Sedation or General
  • Patient Status: Outpatient procedure
  • Recovery Timeline:
    • Return to work: Less than one week
    • Light exercise: 4 weeks
    • Regular exercise: 6-8 weeks

Conditions Addressed by Ear Surgery

Otoplasty can effectively treat multiple ear-related aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Oversized ears
  • Prominent ear positioning
  • Lop ear deformities
  • Pointed ear shape
  • Large or stretched ear lobes
  • Torn ear lobes
  • Ear lobes with wrinkles or creases

Ideal Candidates for Ear Reshaping

Most ear surgeries are performed on children between ages 5 and 15, as ears are nearly fully developed by this time. The procedure is often recommended to address potential bullying or self-esteem concerns. Adults who were unable to correct ear appearance during childhood can also benefit from otoplasty.

Surgical Technique

During the procedure, Dr. Tran will make discrete incisions to expose and reshape ear cartilage. Techniques may involve removing cartilage sections, using sutures to fold cartilage, and carefully positioning ears to achieve a natural, balanced appearance.

Recovery and Expectations

Post-surgical recovery involves wearing protective bandages and following specific care instructions. Patients can typically return to normal activities within a week, with full healing occurring over several weeks.

Consultation Process

Dr. Tran conducts comprehensive consultations to determine surgical candidacy, discuss patient expectations, and develop personalized treatment plans. Patients should provide complete medical history and be prepared to discuss potential limitations and risks.

Dr. Anthony Tran is an amazing and compassionate person. I’ve known him and his wife for years. As a doctor he is exemplary, first rate, well informed, admirable and genuinely cares for every single one of his patients he serves! I’ve seen him for a few things and honestly he is the only surgeon that I would trust to perform any procedure on me placing my life and well being in his hands. Thank you Dr Anthony Tran for all you do and always exceeding all expectations! You are truly a great surgeon and an amazing human being. I know that I would always be taken care of. He has a supportive wife and a beautiful family. His staff is great. They are respectful, supportive, have great bed side manners, and genuinely care for all the people they serve. Thank you for all that you do!

Anthony Tran is one of those terrible doctors who will do anything for money, but provide a messy job. Their appointments are never on time and the unprofessionalism goes from the receptionist, to his wife as a helper, to Anthony Tran himself. What's funny is that his wife barely speaks English well, but then acts like English is the only thing she knows. Hence, she refuses to text in Vietnamese given the fact that most of their clients are Vietnamese. This draws a problem because they can never communicate well with their patients, so the results and the expectations are always horrendous. Anthony Tran performed many botched surgeries and we will serve him papers from the court within a few weeks. His office is messy, his back room is sketchy and truths be told, when he numbs his patients for procedures, he will leave them for over an hour (so he could finish his lunch or drive somewhere--while the patients are on the slab). By the time he comes back to perform the surgery, the anesthesia has mostly worn off. Patients have to beg for more. We have built cases and we will have witnesses at the court. It is time for this poor business to retire. An absolutely nightmare to those who have placed their trust completely wrong.
